CAOM’s first prolotherapy cadaver workshop!

CAOM is committed to providing comprehensive training in prolotherapy, helping to make this pain treatment more “visible” and available to our patients.
On April 8th and 9th, 2022 a group of 24 participants and 6 instructors met in Calgary for Canada’s first prolotherapy cadaver workshop run by the Canadian Association of Orthopaedic Medicine.
We spent a half day with mini-lectures, marking practice, and anatomy training, and then 1 ½ days in the anatomy lab. Calgary hosts a superb facility run by Heather, and it really is state of the art. Ultrasound connections and TV screens were in place, and the facility was second to none.

Groups rotated through different instructors, who focused on both palpation and ultrasound skills. We worked with groups in the spine track (all under ultrasound, although palpation was taught as well for certain structures) and the periphery track (palpation-based with some ultrasound confirmation of needle placement).

There was plenty of time to go through the syllabus. For some this may have been an introductory experience of prolotherapy, while for others it was a perfect opportunity to enhance their skills. During the food breaks we were able to chat and get to know each other.
All in all, feedback was very positive and CAOM is hoping to continue offering the evolving program in the future, helping to put prolotherapy on the radar of more physicians and patients.
