21st FIMM International Scientific Conference + 24th ÄMKA Conference

Manual Medicine in Children – The State of the Art

Hannover, Germany – October 28 – 30, 2022

57th FIMM General Assembly: October 27, 2022

Expanding the Horizon Of Manual Medicine

Manual Medicine has been firmly established as an essential method for treating movement disorders and musculoskeletal pain in adolescents and adults.

Manual Medicine is also a wonderful tool to assess and treat a large variety of pediatric disorders. This area has been well developed in a few schools of Manual Medicine, but is not yet widely well known.

Articular and muscular somatic dysfunction can be a cause of infantile scoliosis, some instances of wry neck and also a cause of excessive crying in infants. If they are not treated, these pathologies can become a factor towards the development of so-called clumsy children. Many typical orthopedic pathologies can be compounded by somatic dysfunction and helped by manual treatment. Examples are congenital hip dislocation, Perthes disease or idiopathic adolescent scoliosis. Neurologically impaired children can also often benefit from manual treatment, as the movement disorders resulting from cerebral palsy can be amplified by additional somatic dysfunction.

We want to introduce you to the wide possibilities of Manual Medicine in children and invite you to attend the joint International scientific conference by FIMM and ÄMKA in Hannover, Germany Oct. 28-30, 2022. The three day event will focus on the practical aspects of the method and will include lectures and many hands-on workshops by international experts. It will be held in close cooperation with one of Germany´s largest pediatric orthopedic departments at Hannover Medical School, where Manual Medicine is a well-established field. ÄMKA is the German society for Manual Medicine that is specifically dedicated to treating children.

Who should attend:

  • GPs who treat children as well as adults: we will show you how to recognize and judge manual medical issues in pediatric patients so that you can refer them to qualified practitioners.
  • Practitioners of MM: we want to introduce you to the exiting field of MM in children, acquaint you with- and enthuse you for – new possibilities in specialized clinical practice. The insights gained from diagnostics in children and the new manual techniques will also prove to be very helpful in the treatment of adults. Your approach to MM will become more gentle and sensitive.
  • Practitioners of MM in children: internationally active instructors will present scientific findings and new techniques for MM in children. The scope of our knowledge will be extended and “the state of the art” will be established.
